We decided we would set ourselves, and as many of our members as possible, the challenge of climbing two Munros back-to-back for Health in Mind.
The Munros were Ben Lawers and Beinn Ghlas in the Scottish Highlands, north of Loch Tay.
We appreciate that charities need financial support from sources outwith their organisation and so looked for a charity we could approach to help with their funding.
We decided to support Health in Mind, as mental health has become a bigger issue since the Covid pandemic, and the support they provide is vital to people struggling with their mental health. We thought this was a perfect choice.
The enjoyment we all got from this experience was clear from the minute we met outside the gym at 4.45 am. The banter started and continued when we arrived at the car park close to where the dual Munro climb would start.
This was such a team effort. Where some found it difficult, we waited and then moved on as a team. We reached both summits as a team – which felt so fulfilling.
The whole day was brilliant. We got good weather, successfully climbed the two Munros, and ended our climb with a team barbecue in the car park.
We raised £1,450 for Health in Mind, which they were so grateful to receive.
I encourage groups from all walks of life to get involved in the challenge.
