Why talk about mental health?

Struggling with your mental health can be lonely. People often find it difficult to speak directly about what they’re going through – and being met with kindness and care can make a huge difference. It’s really helpful to take the first step, and reach out if it seems like someone’s struggling.

Partly because having these conversations can feel so important, it’s easy to be intimidated by them. That can lead us to respond with panic if someone confides in us, or to overpromise and burn ourselves out trying to fix everything for them.

Many of us would like to feel able to reach out, but aren’t confident doing so. This resource offers some ideas on building your confidence with opening up the conversation, listening well, and helping someone find the right support for their situation. It’s also got helpful tips for keeping strong boundaries, and looking after yourself as well as others.
